You may have been working under the impression that you were saving money by using the “auto-renew” feature on adult dating, swinger, BDSM sites etc. I know I was. After all companies give discounts for autodraft billing for everything from insurance to car loans. It reduces their billing headaches and, in the case of optional expenses like…dating websites….it helps to keep the customer coming back. But, in several cases you can actually get a better deal by turning off auto-renew and extending manually.

On Adult Friendfinder, one of the biggest and at one time the best sex oriented dating website, you could save $1.50 a month by renewing a Gold membership manually.

At their BDSM oriented sister site Alt.com the saving is more complicated. My locked in auto-renew rate was $29.95. I was using a PayPal secure debit card number good for a single website and I deleted it along with several that were no longer in use. When the billing didn’t go through, the renewal offer was at $23.72. I went back and checked. Sure enough, I’d been paying much more. My current “Automatic monthly renewal rate” is $24.97, but my manual renewal rate is $23.72.

Think you might miss out on something? Don’t worry. If you forget to renew on time, messages to you will still go through, your friend lists will be intact, hotlists will be safe. You might have to do a multi-month renewal to reactivate, but the multi-month rates are even better (under $18/month).

I haven’t checked this on other sites because I don’t have active memberships. Comments on other site costs are welcome. In the meantime, check it yourself and maybe save a few bucks.
